Party Affiliation

An old-fashioned Idaho Democrat.
I have identified with the Democratic party since childhood.  My concern for Idaho's high quality of life, the affect of soaring energy prices on working families, education and small businesses still makes this a good fit for me. There are three reasons why I am asking you to choose this rather conservative pro-life Democrat to represent you in Boise:

  1. A two-party system adds balance and accountability and encourages wise stewardship by both parties.  One-party governance leads unavoidably to arrogance and lack of accountability.  For example, a 20 year neglect of Idaho infrastructure.
  2. Responsible stewardship for everyone-in my race I am the candidate most concerned about effective government, listening to all the voters in district 11 and crafting bi-partisan solutions--not imposing a narrow personal agenda on the voters.
  3. Local Control--I believe issues should be resolved at the level closest to the people--not imposed from "on high" in Boise.  Increasingly the other party has chosen to limit the rights of citizens to vote on local issues, and interfere with elected school boards to do their jobs.  I believe that state should assist but not overshadow local governments.

The Democratic Party in Idaho is significantly more conservative than the national party.  A woman in in our district recently told me, "I'm a Democrat. In any other state I would be considered a Republican." The Idaho party is historically much more like the Democratic party of the 1950's and early 60's--the party of civil rights, and support to the people who work hard to bring home a paycheck.  Support for the second amendment was in the state platform long before the recent Supreme Court ruling.  I personally disagree with the piece of the state platform which does not support the right to life, and my Democratic colleagues (many who agree with me) know that  I will work hard to encourage a right-to-life ethic in the state.
Please feel free to contact me. I will try to answer any questions that you have.
